Second Servings of Houston, a partner of The Way Home, was founded in 2014 and launched in 2015 with the purpose of alleviating hunger and eliminating food waste. According to their website, “Second Servings of Houston strives to alleviate hunger and reduce waste by reusing excess prepared and perishable food from hotels, caterers, sports venues, distributors, retailers, and other regulated food businesses and delivering it promptly and safely to approved charitable meal sites.”
Since 2015, Second Servings has partnered with over 175 food donors to serve more than 13,000 individuals experiencing food insecurity through 49 charity donation sites in the Houston area. Second Servings regularly collaborates with other partners of The Way Home such as Salvation Army, The Women’s Home, Bread of Life, Santa Maria Hostel and many more.
